Akron Early College High School is a fresh approach to high school. Students enrolled at Early College attend their entire 4 years of High School on the University of Akron campus taking High School and University coursework.
Why?
Students enrolled at Early College have the opportunity to graduate High School with their High School Diploma and an Associates Degree from the University of Akron. University coursework and required textbooks are provided free of charge to students. The program is designed for first-generation college applicants. Classes are taught at The University of Akron by a combination of high school teachers and college professors.
Who is eligible to enroll?
Students in the Akron Public Schools system and surrounding school districts apply for Akron Early College in their 8th grade year. Informational meetings are scheduled in January and applications are distributed at these meetings. The application deadline is in early February. Each year 100 new freshman are selected to attend. 8th graders who have a desire to participate in a rigorous and academically focused high school experience on a University campus are welcome to apply.
